Flanagan and Heastie Announce Joint Legislative Schedule For Adopting SFY 2018-2019 Budget

Senate Majority Leader John J. Flanagan, Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie, Senate Finance Committee Chair Catharine M. Young and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair Helene E. Weinstein today announced an agreement on a joint legislative budget schedule that sets deadlines for the adoption of an on-time state budget.

The agreed-to legislative budget schedule for 2018 is as follows:

February 28 (on or before) Senate & Assembly Economic / Revenue Reports Released
February 28 (tentative) Joint Revenue Forecasting Conference
March 1 (on or before) Revenue Consensus Report
March 14 Senate & Assembly One House Budget Actions

Taste NY’s First Business-to-Business Networking Event to Take Place at Corning Community College February 23.  Delivers on Governor Cuomo’s State of the State Promise to Connect New York Farms, Food and Beverage Businesses with New Markets

Taste NY and Finger Lakes Farm Country, a five-county collaboration that is working to spotlight the region’s diverse agricultural producers, today announced the kick-off Taste NY Business-to-Business event. The Taste NY-sponsored networking opportunity is taking place in coordination with the Finger Lakes Farm Country Conference and Taste FLXpo, a special event designed to connect Finger Lakes farms and food and beverage businesses with new markets and to boost tourism in the region. The conference and expo deliver on the Governor’s State of the State promise to provide new business and marketing opportunities to grow the agricultural industry.  More here…

ESD Announces New York Ventures Investment in Wearable Technology Start-Up Token.  Company Founded by RIT Alumni Is Developing Wearable, Security Technology for the Masses


Investment Complements “Finger Lakes Forward” – The Region’s Comprehensive Strategy to Revitalize Communities and Grow the Economy

Empire State Development (ESD) today announced that through its New York State Innovation Venture Capital Fund (NYSIVCF), it will invest up to $1.75 million in identity technology start-up Token. The company is based in Rochester, NY, where it manufactures the biometric, encrypted, wearable device. Token’s identity ring functions as a key across physical and digital access points and uses a combination of fingerprinting and an optical proximity sensor to authenticate a user, ensuring the user’s credentials remain secure.  The Token ring offers a combination of convenience through the easy-to-use, ubiquitous wearable device and security, via its unique 2-factor authentication. Its companion software platform allows the ring to be integrated into various identity applications, including computer logins, mobile payments, transit cards, and “smart” locks for home and auto. It will be available later this year.  More here…

Investment in Transformative Downtown Project Complements “Finger Lakes Forward” – The Region’s Comprehensive Strategy to Revitalize Communities and Grow the Economy

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the official grand opening of NextCorps, formerly High Tech Rochester, on the sixth floor of the beautifully renovated Sibley Building in Downtown Rochester. The new state-of-the-art facility supports the creation and growth of high tech companies, and will serve as one of the cornerstones of the ongoing revitalization that is happening in downtown Rochester. The Sibley Building will serve as the headquarters for NextCorps, which has moved its staff from the Lennox Tech Enterprise Center in Henrietta to the renovated facility.  The transformation of the historic building is central to the ongoing revitalization of the city’s urban core. More here…


ESD Announces Opening of Boyce Technologies’ New Long Island City Headquarters

Technology Company Expanded Workforce and Created Over 40 New Jobs

Empire State Development (ESD) today announced the opening of Boyce Technologies’ new 100,000 square-foot headquarters in Long Island City, Queens. The mass transit technology designer and manufacturer created more than 40 jobs as part of its relocation and expansion. This project allows the company to consolidate its operations and provide additional space for new equipment, research, development, and marketing. Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul attended the ribbon cutting, and toured the new facility. More here…

State’s Pharmaceutical Take-Back Pilot Program Will Improve Water Quality, Protect Public Health and Reduce

Retail Pharmacies, Hospitals and Long-Term Care Facilities Encouraged to Apply for Second Round of Pilot Program

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced

the first group of participants in the State’s $2 million Pilot Pharmaceutical Take-Back Program. Participants

include 80 retail pharmacies, hospitals, and long-term care facilities across the state. The Pilot Pharmaceutical Take Back Program will officially begin accepting waste medications in April 2018,

when medication collection boxes are delivered to and installed by participating pharmacies. Until then,

the public is encouraged to use existing medication collection box locations, which can be found by visiting

DEC’s website and clicking on NYS Medication Drop Box Locations link.  More here…
