Todd H. Vandervort, President and CEO
TODD H. VANDERVORT, President and CEO of The Vandervort Group, LLC, has been with the firm since 1987. Todd’s father, Jack Vandervort created the firm in 1985 and taught Todd the lobbying business based on high ethical standards and a full-service approach. Todd has continued to carry out his father’s principles and values since his father’s retirement in 2010.
Todd has successfully carried out his clients’ legislative and regulatory goals for 30 years. He specializes in healthcare, information technology, transportation, fire service, licensure, environment, and alcoholic beverage issues, to name a few. Todd has also expanded the scope of the firm to focus on an enhanced procurement practice. In this capacity, Todd specializes in removing obstacles in contracting and finding legislative fixes to increase vendor opportunities and pave the way for fair contracting in state government.
To better serve his clients, Todd serves on the President’s Council of the Business Council of NYS, Inc. as well as several key committees of the Business Council, including the Government Affairs Committee, the Contract Procurement Committee, Information Technology & Telecommunications, Environment, Transportation, and Small Business Committees. In addition, he is a member of the Empire State Society of Association Executives, the New York State Forum’s IT Corporate Roundtable.
Todd serves on the Capital District YMCA Board, and is one of the founders of YMCA’s Circle of Champs to help kids with life threatening diseases to lead a normal life. He has been a member and Past President of the Sarah Wells and William Bull Stone House Association in Orange County for the past 22 years, which is a family-based organization that maintains the history and homestead of the descendants of William Bull and Sarah Wells and their twelve children. Extended members of the family still gather in reunion every year since 1868 at the Annual Bull Family Reunion and Picnic.
Todd was raised in Guilderland, NY and Fayetteville-Manlius, NY (Syracuse) and graduated from Hartwick College with a degree in Political Science. In addition to his commitment to his clients and his work, Todd is the father of two. He enjoys spending time with his family, as well as golfing on the weekends, and skiing in Vermont.
Jay Holland, Lobbyist
Jay brings a diverse political skillset to aid our clients in their advocacy efforts. He understands the crossroads of governance and media and can help clients with both their lobbying and public relations needs. Jay has a continued track record of successfully branding and winning legislative issues within the legislature and the public.
Jay is the former Government Affairs Director for The NYS Restaurant Association where he led all advocacy operations for a 2,000 member trade association at the local, state, and federal levels. In this capacity, he successfully lobbied New York State Executive, Agencies and Legislature, as well as local governments including New York City Mayor, Agencies, and City Council.
Jay also serves our clients through his extensive experience leading media and public relations strategies. He has given on the record and background interviews to a diverse range of top media sources in every major New York media market. Jay also has in-depth live interview experience on Capitol Pressroom radio and on Capital Tonight broadcast; he has developed media strategy for a range of hot-topic issues, including writing and placing various opinion editorials and press releases.
Prior to that, Jay worked at the New York State Assembly, Department of Communication and Information Systems as Regional Communications Coordinator, where he developed, designed and executed an annual communications plan for Members of Assembly. He also has extensive campaign field experience in management and communications for hopeful political candidates.
Jay graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science, and a Minor in English.
Margaret L. Vandervort, Legislative Director and Business Manager
Margaret joined the firm in September, 1989 and plays an integral role in the day-to-day operations of the firm. As Legislative Director, Margaret manages the firm’s legislative affairs including tracking legislation, regulations and state procurement opportunities; preparing written memoranda in support of or opposition to legislation; preparing and submitting filings to the Joint Commission on Public Ethics on behalf of the firm and its clients; attending legislative and regulatory meetings and hearings; and assisting the firm’s lobbyists with preparation for and execution of their meetings, conferences, and other client activities.
Margaret ensures that the firm and its broad-based portfolio of clients are in full compliance with legislative and procurement lobbying laws. In addition, she monitors and reports on relevant activities at all levels of state and local government through a communications tool, “New York News”, which she created more than a decade ago. New York News was the winner of the Empire State Society of Association Executives’ 2013 Award for Excellence in Government Relations.
As Business Manager, Margaret manages the firm’s business, financial, and personnel issues. In this capacity, she identifies and implements strategic business goals, oversees and supervises the company’s affairs, and ensures that the company’s resources are being appropriately utilized.
Margaret also brings association management skills to the firm. Her many years of business experience, coupled with an enthusiastic approach to her work have enabled her to successfully guide associations to achieve their goals in membership strategies, enhanced communications, and personal connections.
Margaret holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from SUNY Fredonia, and currently serves on the Boards of the Voorheesville Community and School Foundation, The Kids Club, and the Family Committee at the Albany Country Club. She also volunteers for the St. Matthew’s CYO Basketball League.
Lauren Quirk, Professional Administrative Assistant
Lauren Quirk joined The Vandervort Group, LLC in February, 2016. Lauren brings a wealth of knowledge in events management and is instrumental in planning and executing Lobby Days and meeting planning. In addition, Lauren has helped shape and brand the firm’s grassroots mobilization efforts on behalf if its clients. Her expertise in event coordination has given her the tools to deploy successful and effective grassroots campaigns. Lauren is also responsible for working closely with clients and the firm’s lobbyists to ensure that the firm’s tradition of providing a full-service lobbying experience is met and exceeded.
Lauren graduated from Siena College where she studied Marketing and Management with a concentration in Marketing.
Santa Pasquini, Executive Assistant
Santa Pasquini joined The Vandervort Group, LLC in January, 2008 as Executive Assistant, and assists with daily operations of the firm during the Legislative Session. She brings many years of valuable experience to the firm.
Santa retired in 2005 as Administrative Secretary in the Albany office of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Office for Legislative Affairs. Santa worked for the Mayor’s Office since 1977, serving under the administration of five mayors. As Executive Secretary, Santa managed scheduling of legislative appointments, prepared legislative memos for distribution to legislators, and coordinated schedules for the Legislative Representative and the Assistant Legislative Representatives of the Mayor’s Office.
